Obituary

Jane Elizabeth (Marszalek) Ebbitt, 83, died Monday, May 31, 2021, in her home with family near her side after courageously battling pancreatic cancer. She was born November 29, 1937, the second daughter of the late Stanley and Regina Marszalek. She graduated from the Braddock School of Nursing. As a Student Nurse she met and cared for her future husband, John “Jack” Ebbitt, who predeceased her more than fifteen years ago. After raising four children, she returned to nursing and worked at Briarcliff Pavilion, Baldock Nursing Home, Geri Care Plus, and as a Consultant for various nursing homes throughout the Commonwealth. She was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church in North Huntingdon, where she was a member of the Confraternity Christian Mothers and worked the fish fries for decades. She also was a member of Penns Woods Civic Association, The Polish Roman Catholic Union of America, and was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan. Jane truly embraced and radiated her Polish heritage as well as enjoyed the Ebbitt and “MOP” reunions. Jane had a frankness about her and will be sadly missed by her family, friends and neighbors. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by various friends, neighbors and relatives of the Ebbitt, Marszalek, Olszewski and Packowski extended families. Loving mother to sons J.R. (Kathy) of Daphne, AL; Jeff (Jody) of Winston-Salem NC, Joe (Honey Lynn) of North Huntingdon, and daughter Janine Montgomery of North Huntingdon; grandmother to Claire (fiancé Tyler Lee), Bethany, Zoe, Conor, Nicolas, Blake, Jake, Johan & Yukon Ebbitt; Madisyn and Camdin Montgomery; sister to Frances (the late Patrick) O’Donnell, Carolyn (Richard “Deppy”) Despotakis, Marianne (the late David) Popyak, and Dorothy (Raymond) Szymarek, godson Charlie Szymarek and Tommy Crock; sister-in-law to Mary Ann Ebbitt and Joanne Ebbitt; various cousins, nieces and nephews, and a dear friend that assisted Jane during her illness, Becky Evans, and special neighbors John & Marion Petrovay. Special gratitude to Dr Mehta, PA Jesse and the UPMC Hospice team along with UPMC East Stepdown Unit. Friends will be received 2-4 & 6-8p.m. Friday at Ott Funeral Home Inc 805 Pennsylvania Avenue Irwin. Parting prayers will be held Saturday 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial Celebrated in St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church. Entombment will follow in Peen Lincoln Memorial Park, North Huntingdon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Hair Peace Charities, 102 Cleveland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA 15202.

To the entire Ebbitt family,
Jane was a wonderful woman: strong, joyful, witty and beautiful. A wonderful wife, Mom and grandmother, one of my favorite memories of her was at JR and Kathy's rehearsal dinner. As Maid of Honor I was in charge of the flower girls and little Mark getting down the aisle. She asked me if I had "experience " with dealing with little ones- of course, I had not. When I told her that, she just looked at me and said, "Well, I don't care how you do it, but make sure they get to their places." Then she just smiled and gave me a hug. Needless to say, the next morning when she arrived at the church, I remember how beautiful she looked- hair perfect, beautiful in her dress, sweet smile and so proud of her son. She walked up to me and said. "You look beautiful. The kids will be fine. Don't you trip."
All my love to each of you.
