JoAnne (Koval) Hensler 85 of North Huntingdon, passed away Tuesday February 23, 2021 in the Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital Greensburg, surrounded by her children and an abundance of love. She was born October 30, 1935 in Braddock, and she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Anna (Koval) Koval. JoAnne attended St. Anselm Elementary School, Swissvale Public Schools and Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She was at one time employed as a secretary for United States Steel, Edgar Thompson Works in Braddock, where she met a handsome young bachelor, Richard P. (Dick) Hensler, who would soon become her beloved husband of more than 50 years. She was a devoted member of the Immaculate Conception Church where she served as lector, a Eucharistic Minister for the homebound, and a longtime member of the Christian Mothers/Women’s Guild. She valued her church, her faith and her family above all else. She enjoyed volunteering in her community and church, including as a Girl Scout Leader, Catechism Teacher, the Sunday Choir, the Funeral Choir and delivering Meals on Wheels. JoAnne was preceded in death by her beloved husband Dick, an infant son Michael Hensler, her sister Irma Koval and brothers, William (Billy) and Donald. Her life will be forever honored and cherished by her children Mary Jo Hensler of Burke, VA, Nancy Bush and her husband Bill of Herndon VA, Marty Stewart and her husband Dan of Strongsville OH, Ellen McElroy and her husband Tim of Hingham MA, Richard Hensler and his wife Lori of North Huntingdon, and her 11 grandchildren Laura, David and Steven Yu, Ben, T.J. and Michael Bush, Danny, Nick and Joey Stewart, Aidan and Jake McElroy. JoAnne is also survived by her adored sister Constance Rhoads and her dear cousins Alice O’Toole and Jeannie Flynn. Visitation will be private. Friends are welcome to attend a 9:30 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial celebrated Friday in Immaculate Conception Church. Interment will follow in Irwin Union Cemetery, North Huntingdon.
