Obituary for John C. "Jack" McCarren

John C. “Jack” McCarren III, 74, of North Huntingdon, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family Thursday, January 19, 2023. He was born December 09, 1948, in Pittsburgh, a son of the late Robert and Martha Caldwell McCarren. Jack was a devoted husband, loving father and adoring grandfather. He was affectionately known as “Jackie” to his grandsons. His grandsons were his pride and joy. His happiest days were spent golfing with Jonathan and Josh at Manor Valley Golf Club. Jack served in the US Air Force and was a retired sporting goods and hard lines manager at the former K-Mart. After retirement, Jack worked parttime for S&T Bank until his new career…taking care of his grandsons. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Carol E. Anderson McCarren, a brother, Thomas McCarren and a brother-in-law Michael Anderson. He is survived by his daughter Kelly and son-in-law Joe Funk of Irwin; two grandsons, Jonathan and Joshua; brother, Robert McCarren, Jr. (Deborah); two sisters, Donna McElhose (Jim) and Patricia Maxwell (Russell); sisters-in-law, Kathy McCarren and Linda Anderson; brother-in-law, Robert Anderson (Mary Eileen); several nieces and nephews and special friend Sally Thompson. Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Jack, Sunday from 1-3 p.m. & 5-7 p.m. in the Ott Funeral Home, Inc., 805 Pennsylvania Ave, Irwin, 724 863-8900. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in the Ott Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Glenn Myers officiating. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the nurses and staff of Hillman Cancer Center and Shadyside Hospital for their exceptional care. The nurses on 7 main and 6 west became like family to Jack and the ICU staff was wonderful. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, 333 E.
