John David Spehar, 47, of Pittsburgh, died Sunday, January 08, 2023 at home. He was born June 13, 1975, in Jeannette, a son of John E. Spehar, Jr. and Kathleen G. Hoak Spehar of Herminie. John was Catholic by faith and graduated from Greensburg Central Catholic High School. He then received his Bachelor's Degree in Early Childhood & Elementary Education from California University of PA and then went on to obtain his Master's Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of South Florida. John was the Director for the Pittsburgh Oasis Tutor Program an affiliate of the Pittsburgh Literacy Council. He was a member of the BPOE (Elks) Allegheny Lodge #339 where he served as youth chairman. John led many projects to support local children. He enjoyed going to camp with his dad and hunting with his brother and his buddies. He also enjoyed taking cruises, trips to NYC and traveling the world. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, John E. and Emma Marsiglio Spehar; and his maternal grandparents, Hugh C. and Virginia Whetstone Hoak. In addition to his parents, he is survived by his beloved brother, Anthony Spehar (Carrie) of Bulger; best friend Adam Mosko; his administrative assistant and friend, Kathy Fear; aunts and uncles, Regina and Michael Daugherty and Virginia and Paul Bowman; three cousins, Jennifer Daugherty (Ed), Jason Daugherty (Melanie) and Beau Bowman and his parent’s Basset Hound Oscar, who he adored. Family and friends will be received on Thursday from 4-7 PM in the Ott Funeral Home Inc. 805 Pennsylvania Ave., Irwin 724-863-8900. A funeral blessing service will be held on Friday at 11 AM in the funeral home with the Rev. Vincent A. Yee Concepcion officiating. Interment will follow in the West Newton Cemetery.
