Obituary

Kenneth M. Fry, 72, of North Huntingdon died Wednesday May 5, 2021 in North Huntingdon. He was born January 17, 1949, in Pittsburgh a son of the late James K. and Darlene (Hollen) Fry. Surviving is three children James Fry, Jarrod Fry and his wife, Holli, Aubrey Fraser and her husband, Jack; eight grandchildren Jacob, Nicholas, Noah, Gracyn, Maxwell, Cooper, Anna and Jack. Ken is also survived by his ex-wife of 30 years Linda Moore. Ken was by nature a quiet man, who’s calm presence was a gift to his children and those who were his friends, family and co-workers. He was an avid reader who could talk about any subject under the sun but look out if someone brought up politics or basketball! He was a proud, lifelong progressive-democrat and convinced that the 1985-86 Celtics were the best team ever! He loved playing and coaching basketball. He loved to laugh and had a dry and razor-sharp wit. He was happiest joking around with family and friends, enjoying a Steeler game, chipped ham on hard rolls and a cigarette. Ken served our country during Vietnam, as an Army E5 Sergeant and electronic/radio repairman. He loved telling tales of his experiences, which were mostly about his time stationed in Germany and Amsterdam. Once home he spent most of his career as a Union worker for Westinghouse, Union Switch & Signal and WABCO…eventually joining the United Auto Workers…he worked at the Volkswagon Plant in Westmoreland County from it’s opening to the day it closed. For his second career, he went back to school and became a Physical Therapy Assistant. He worked at several different Physical Therapy practices eventually retiring from Westmoreland Manor. But the jewel of his career and his most cherished experience was the 20+years he spent on the Medical Staff at Jeannette High School. He loved working with the staff and all the players that came through over the years and was with the team through more than one State Championship! He was a Jayhawk through and through! Ken’s last wish was to be at Canadohta Lake with his three children and eight grandchildren, roasting marshmallows and telling stories about Amsterdam, basketball, and his beloved first car, a two-tone 57 Chevy Bel Air. He was always able to give good advice and always there when you had a problem…a reliable friend to all who knew him. He would always say that even in the worst of times, “this too shall pass”. We love you Dad! Family and close friends are gathering privately. Feel free to donate to your favorite charity in Ken’s name, and hug your loved ones every chance you get! Entrusted with the arrangements is Ott Funeral Home Inc 805 Pennsylvania Irwin.

The Fry family has my sympathy. Being head football coach at Jeannette I remember working closely with Ken . He was a big part of the success we had. He was a very caring and thoughtful person.
