Mary Patricia “Pat” Carlson, age 94, of Irwin, passed away peacefully at her home on April 15, 2021. She was born April 22, 1926, the daughter of the late Francis and Hannah (Whalen) Murray of North Irwin.
A graduate of the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, she enjoyed a lifelong affiliation with Mercy Hospital. She began her career as a nurse, retired as a clinical nursing instructor, and later volunteered as a patient advocate. While working full time and raising her family, she earned a Bachelor of Education degree from California University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Education degree from Duquesne University.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Wallace J. Carlson, one daughter, Lauren Carlson Seaton, son-in-law William A. Druschel, and brother John “Jack” (Mary Grace) Murray.
She is survived by her children LuAnne (John) Hedblom, Mary Pat Druschel, Mark (Mary Beth) Carlson, and Pamela (Riad) Asfahani; her beloved grandchildren William E. (Paige) Seaton III, Thomas (Lauren) Hedblom, Jennifer Seaton (Kevin) Stump, Christopher (Meghan) Hedblom, Mara Hedblom (Luis) Leon, John W. Carlson, Robert A. Carlson, and Nicholas R. Asfahani; and great-grandchildren Carter Seaton, Hunter Seaton, Tyler Seaton, Henry Stump, Charlie Hedblom, Lucas W. Hedblom, and Emma Hedblom; and brother Francis X. (Rosemary) Murray.
Visitation will be private. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at Immaculate Conception Church, 308 2nd St, Irwin, on Monday April 19, 2021 at noon. Interment will follow in Immaculate Conception Cemetery.
