Ryan (“Soup”) Zackery Suomela (originally from North Huntingdon) 32, born June 22, 1989 in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, passed away Saturday, Feb 5, 2022 at home. Ryan will be sadly missed and forever in the hearts of his fiancée, Samantha Sestito (of Parma, Ohio), mother, Elizabeth (Beth) Suomela, brother, Thomas Hart, half-brother Corey Weber, of DE, maternal grandparents, James and Patricia (nee Bayorek) Miller, aunts and uncles Amy (nee Suomela) Wilson, (of North Huntingdon) Valerie and PJ Guyton (of Canonsburg) and cousins, Garrett Guyton, Grant Guyton, Julia Wilson, Gabriel Wilson and Grace Guyton. Ryan is preceded in death by great grandparents John and Estelle Bayorek of Belle Vernon and James and Lorraine Miller of Greensburg. Ryan’s maternal grandparents played a vital role in his childhood and he thought of his grandfather, James Miller (“Papap”), as a father. Ryan was a free spirit and lived an adventurous life, traveling the country enjoying music festivals. He often worked the festivals, taking full advantage of the festival lifestyle. He made hundreds of friends all over the country who shared his passion and love of live music. He was also a self-taught guitarist who had talent with other instruments as well. Ryan was a talented craftsman who enjoyed making and selling wood projects. Ryan graduated from Norwin High School in 2007 participating in the Norwin boys high school soccer team where he was given the nickname of “Soup” which stuck with him through adulthood. He was a natural athlete and adventurer, he excelled in any athletic endeavor he attempted. Ryan was also in the Norwin Ski Club and at the time, he was the youngest player to make the Norwin Junior League all-star baseball team. He loved the outdoors and was often found in parks and forests camping, hiking, kayaking or mushroom collecting. Ryan loved animals and often had snakes and amphibians as pets, but he was always most affectionate towards cats. Ryan was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and fought it valiantly this winter. He was grateful to the nurses and staff at Shadyside hospital who helped make his final months while confined in a hospital undergoing treatments easier to withstand, especially over the holidays. Throughout his time in the hospital, Samantha stayed by Ryan’s side, helping to make the confinement both fun and productive. Ryan was a caring sweet soul who always had a smile on his face. He was fun to be around, was easy going and was always up for anything, whether adventuring around the country or staying home to enjoy a game of cards or board games with his family. He dreamed of touring the country in an RV with his love, Samantha. They lived his final months in his vintage RV while recovering from cancer treatments and planned on restoring it this spring. Although in recovery from cancer, his death was both unexpected and sudden. His sweet soul has left a mark on all who knew him and he will always be fondly remembered. Friends will be received at Ott Funeral Home Inc 805 Pennsylvania Avenue Irwin on Wednesday 2 to 4 & 6 to 7:45 p.m. at which time a closing prayer will be held.
