Obituary for Thomas A. Van Atta

Thomas A. Van Atta, 79, of North Huntingdon, died Thursday, February 16, 2023, at home. He was born February 15, 1944, in Glenshaw, a son of the late Harry Admiral and Emma Margaret Murray Van Atta. Tom was a retired Truck Driver for Shop N Save and the Mr. Fix-it of the neighborhood. It could be said, “If Tom couldn't fix something, it needed to be thrown away.” He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era. He loved his four cats, but favored 'Fudgie', who could always be found sitting on his lap. He was a simple and private man who will be missed by his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, William, John, Robert and Alonzo Van Atta; stepbrother, Wayne Lewis; and sister, Judith Swick. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of thirty-one years, Shirley A. Orbon Van Atta; son, Tom Van Atta (Kayla Boehmig) of North Huntingdon; brother, Frank Van Atta (Adele) of Hampton Township, sister, Jane Jackson of South Hills, 'adopted daughter', Sarah Edinger (Christopher) of Hampton; and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Amedysis hospice, especially Natalie and Aria, for their kind and compassionate care during Tom's last days. Services and inurnment will be private in Penn Lincoln Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to All But Furgotten Animal Shelter, 4659 Turner Valley Road North Huntingdon, Pa 15642.
